Winter Frizzies

Winter brings dryer weather. Give your hair an extra shot of moisture. Use a conditioner that has extra moisture. Also Use an anti frizz serum before you apply product to style your hair. That will help you get rid of static and make your hair more manageable.

Condition This!

What kind of Conditioning treatment is right for your hair?

Damaged fine hair...or color treated....or bleached hair needs protein conditioning treatments to build the hair shaft up and add strength. Most protein treatments do not make the hair soft so if you like your hair soft you should use a moisture based conditioner in addition to the protein conditioner. I have had super good luck with Redken Cat treatments for strength. You can purchase this product to use at home. When you build the strength back into your hair your hair has shine, maintains your style better and has more body. So many people with this type of hair think it needs moisture and oil based conditioners. This will only make it limp and lifeless if you don't restore the protein(what hair is made up of)first. Too much protein can make the hair brittle also so you have to really get to know your hair and don't over due it. Another good thing about the Redken Cat product is it holds in the moisture while adding protein. Some don't they expel the moisture and replace it with protein. When shopping look for the words protein, strengthening and reconstructing if you have this type of hair. I would buy a professional grade product so you know that you are getting the highest grade of ingredients in your shampoos and conditioners.

Coarse or Natural Curly Hair generally needs moisture and emollients (oils)to make it more pliable and easier to manage. This type of hair usually has plenty of protein. So when you are shopping for products look for the words moisturising, softening, and smoothing. I also like to use a gloss with this type of hair. Something like Redken smooth down heat glide or Kenra silkening gloss. Every product line has this type of product so ask your stylist about it next time you go in. I always use this on everyone before I apply any styling product to the hair. It makes a protective barrier so the product doesn't absorb into the hair shaft and protects the hair while heat styling.

Knowing these two concepts you should be able to treat your hair more effectively. If you have coarse hair but have bleached highlights...you know that you need some protein for the highlights and then something to soften the rest. You can be creative with this and enjoy your hair so much more.

And I can't stress enough how important it is to use Professional products. Did you know that the companies that make professional products have to follow very strict guidelines when making their products. Only the best ingredients are found in them so they are pure. I have yet to find any over the counter products that don't build up on the hair over time. Most of them have fillers(to make them cheaper) that build up on the hair.

Start A Love Affair with your Hair.

The first date!
First and most important you have to get to know your hair. Take a few moments to evaluate your hair. Write down the things you love about it....then the things you hate. Is it curly...or straight...dry...or oily...bangs..or no bangs?
Once you have done this I want you to look through magazines and find hairstyles you just love...cut them out. Place them all out so you can see them. Pick out one that you think would really look good on you. Then compair your hair to that photo.
Face Shape....are they close to the same?
Texture of the hair.
Thick or thin.
Curly or straight
By now you should be getting to know your hair a little better. You should be able to pick out styles that will work with the hair God gave you. Your hair stylist can change many things but it is always best to work with what you have instead of against it. You will find that you will like your hair so much better if you aren't fighting with it all the time.
Once you find a style you like then you are ready to call your stylist....take your photo with you and don't be affraid to inform him/her of any changes you would like to make. Ask your stylist for their opinion.
